The 2008 murder of Caylee Anthony six months of investigation to find the remains of 3 year-old Caylee, and even more time to determine the cause of death due to the extensive decomposition of the remains that were found in the woods and in a dumpster. The first autopsy performed by Dr. Jan Garavaglia, ruled the death a homicide with the cause of death listed as undetermined. Since the body was so badly decomposed if an autopsy was not performed the ruling of death would've never been ruled a homicide. Evidence collected at the crime scene and home of Caylee Anthony and examined by Dr. Garavaglia led to a confirmation that the remains found were in fact those of Caylee Anthony. DNA collected from the 3 year-old's hair brush and the hair on the duct tape and tissue that was left on the her skull was also the same hair found in trunk of Casey Anthony (Caylee's mother's) car. Although with must shock, Casey Anthony was found not guilty on July 5, 2011. This was another case where although forensic proved otherwise, the prime suspect was acquitted.
